THE MASTER CLASS (50+)

Who We Are

We are the Master Class. By textbook, we focus on functional fitness and related movements patterns that will translate directly into activities of daily living. To us, this means a lot of compound movements including barbell squats, deadlifts and presses, running, biking rowing, and a variety of body weight movements like pull-ups, push-ups performed in as many different ways as you can think of. We put a large focus on glute strengthening, core work and midline stability, balance, mobility, postural correction and the “pre-habilitation” of common physical ailments seen in an older population. But let us take care of that. To you, this means getting healthy, staying in shape and making sure that you are able to live and thrive independently well into the later years of your life.

The Master Class is made up of a group of people aged 50 and over who want to take control of their life. It is a highly coached, functional fitness program that is designed and monitored by a certified fitness professional. It is a strong community that thrives off each other and holds each other accountable inside and outside of class. It is a united group of like-minded individuals who want to thrive, not just survive, well into the later years of their life. Those who partake in this program can expect to get stronger, breathe easier and live better, longer. It’s a simple as that

Bio

I started out my career in fitness as a figure skating coach, after having skated competitively for 10+ years. I trained figure skaters of all levels both on and off the ice to improve their overall athletic performance. After coaching for a couple of years, I knew I was looking for something more! 🙂
In 2014 I began my education at St. Clair College through the Fitness and Health Promotion program. This two-year personal training program gave me a well-rounded knowledge base in many aspects of human performance – including but not limited to human kinetics, specialized training, senior fitness, muscular assessments, mobility and rehabilitation, athlete programming and more. Upon graduating with a 4.0 GPA, I was certified through the Ontario Fitness Council as a personal trainer and resistance training specialist. Immediately following graduation, I earned my CrossFit Level 1 certificate and began coaching at Windsor CrossFit 🙂 This place has quickly become my home away from home.
Coaching at Windsor CrossFit is my passion in life. I take pride in my classes, clients and programs and I am always looking to expand my knowledge base and help the athletes in this gym in as many ways as possible. Fitness is beyond important, and it has the incredible capacity to change your life. And I am extremely lucky to work somewhere where I can contribute to that. #WindsorStrong

Each and every class you partake in is coached by a certified fitness professional. Your coach is there to help guide you through each and every minute of the class, and to motivate you to perform at your best – whatever that may be! The Master Class is open to ALL individuals over the age of 50! This means ANY and ALL fitness levels are welcome. If you are nervous or wondering if this class is for you, come try one out for free. Your coach will ensure that you are moving well and keeping up – there are no worries to be had! The basic breakdown of our classes is as follows:

– WARM UP:

this is a thorough warm-up that includes mobility, postural correction and muscular activation. The warm-up is different every day and is highly applicable to the upcoming workout.

– SKILL SESSION:

each day we will review the movements in the upcoming workout and talk about how to do them safely and efficiently. Your coach will always make sure that you are working at an intensity and ability that is appropriate for you, and will make sure you are comfortable with what you are learning! Never leave a man behind! ☺

– WORKOUT OF THE DAY:

this can be anything! As stated above, we apply all basic movements modalities and turn them into classes that you can thrive in. Every workout is directly translatable to your health and wellness, and every workout is different. If you become a part of the Master Class, you will never repeat a workout. This is a promise.

– COOL DOWN:

each class ends with a mobility-focused cool down to ensure you are moving well and maintaining your muscular and joint health. This is also lead by your coach and is always focused on the muscles that were used in the workout. #ALWAYSapplicable

Those who become a part of the Master Class can expect to see the following changes/improvements in their every day life:

  • Ease of walking, running, using stairs and standing for long periods of time
  • Proper posture
  • Reduction or elimination of back pain (given the issue is not skeletal/nerve-related)
  • Increased independence in daily living
  • Better sleeping patterns
  • Lower stress levels
  • Maintain bone strength/density
  • Increased ability to partake in sports and other activities
  • Greater awareness of proper nutrition, which can lead to better eating habits
  • Athletes will feel stronger and more able in their every day life (confidence!)

Assessment Days

These days are designed to get an overall look at your current physical health. Are you progressing? Do you have any injuries? Are these getting better? Have your goals changed? Have your needs changed? Do you have specific needs that should be focused on? Are you eating properly for your body? We’ll figure it out together! ☺


Seminars

We care about far more than just your physical health – we want you be to be an all around healthy person! Therefore we hold seminars of a variety of nature that will help shed some light on your overall wellness. These can include, but are not limited to seminars about nutrition, stress-management, being active outside the gym, sleep counseling, and more! These are and will always be geared towards our 50+ population and are informative and FUN! ☺


Additional Health Services

Members of the Master Class have many tools at their disposal to help them maintain and improve their physical and mental health. Members can take advantage of our additional health services including chiropractic care, physiotherapy, nutrition counseling, massage therapy, fascial stretch therapy and more. These services come at a discounted rate for all of our members and will keep you moving and feeling great! ☺
