Bio

As a young girl growing up in an Italian family, food was love, and in turn, I LOVED food. Throughout childhood I was always on the “fluffier” side and would constantly hear the term “baby weight” or “big boned” as a nice way of saying “you’re kind of obese”. Unfortunately, that cute excuse didn’t work very well for my 15-year-old self with 30 excess pounds, bad skin, and terrible self-esteem.

I was a mess and something needed to change. However, at the age of 15 I didn’t know what to do or where to start. My parents tried everything to help me—purchasing at home gym equipment, taking me to Globo gyms, on walks, etc. but NOTHING worked. Without fail, every time I had to workout I would get extremely frustrated and emotional. Fitness wasn’t fun. So… I stopped and continued to gain more and more weight, which caused my skin to get worse and worse, and my self esteem to reach its lowest of lows. Physically, I was spiraling out of control and I was convinced I was meant to live my life as an overweight individual.

3 Months Later (10 pounds heavier)

While at a family buffet (obviously) someone I knew had come up behind me, tapped me on the shoulder, and said someone else’s name. It was the name of a family friend who I thought was WAY bigger than I was at the time. Needless to say, I was mortified. My entire world changed from that moment forward. Something clicked, and I becamebeyond determined to lose weight, become healthier overall, and raise my self-esteem to let the real Lauren shine through. My mission began the next day. I purchased countless fitness and nutrition books, and taught myself everything I needed to know to achieve optimal health and wellness. In two short years I lost 40 POUNDS! Forty additional pounds on a petite 5’3 girl is nothing to scoff at. My life started to change in ways I didn’t expect. People didn’t even recognize me! My skin was glowing, my hair and nails became strong and shiny, I learned how to cook healthy and nutritious meals (and even taught my parents a thing or two!), and my self-esteem and personality became so much more vibrant and free. As a 17 year old, I was thoroughly educated through self-teaching in regards to health, fitness, nutrition, and wellness. It was then, I became (and still am) the health, wellness, and fitness guru amongst my friends and family). More importantly, I learned a lot about myself. Embarking on such a huge life changing journey and accomplishing such a meaningful goal all on my own (no personal trainer, nutritionist, health coach, etc.) shaped me and made me the person I am today. It helped me build character, thick skin, work ethic, determination and focus. Overall, changing my health and physical appearance created positive and lasting changes in all other aspects of my life (relationships, friendships, work, school, etc.)

Health and fitness has been my passion and hobby since I was 15 and now I’m fortunate to say that it has become my career. I understand what it feels like to be an overweight child and adolescence; feelings of low self-worth, resistance to change due to confusion, fear, and simply not knowing what to do or where to start, having low self-esteem, and other obesity related mental, emotional and physical health issues.

The Kids Fitness League program is designed to integrate fitness, health, and wellness practices that will suit everyone on a personal level. Windsor Kids Fitness League is designed to build strong foundational life skills by making them fun, applicable, social, and hands on. As a certified Health Coach and CrossFit Kids Coach, I KNOW that your child will benefit from this program regardless of their knowledge or understanding of health, wellness, food, and fitness.

It has become my personal mission to build stronger foundation for your child’s life by helping them become the best version of themselves possible and taking that through into adulthood.

Seminars/Workshops/Support Groups

In addition to our regularly scheduled fitness classes, Kids Fitness League hosts Seminars, Workshops, and Support Groups. All seminars, workshops and support groups are extremely informative, educational, in-depth, and helpful for both children and their parents. We hold various types of seminars, workshops, and support groups including, but not limited to; bullying (cyber bullying & gangs), nutrition (how to read nutrition labels, how to grocery shop, bio-individuality, etc.) school (grades, study & test taking tips, exam stress, etc.), fitness (the importance of being physically fit along with the mental and emotional aspects that play a huge role in fitness), and emotional health (self-esteem, depression & anxiety, eating disorders, etc.). Topics vary depending upon age groups.

*Seminars, workshops, and support groups are excluded from all membership types. Additional fees for participation are required.

Cooking Classes

What is the secret to raising a healthy food lover? Certified Health Coach, Lauren Bosco, meets the kids and their parents in an offsite Kitchen to share her healthy cooking tips and techniques. In this interactive, hands-on class, a Chef and Dietician will show your family how cooking smart with proper techniques and healthier ingredients you can create delicious, nutritious, family-friendly dishes. Lauren will also cover the nutritional benefits of the featured foods, and provide practical advice on how parents can introduce small changes to your family’s meal routines. Children and their parents will leave the class with an excitement for new foods, plus the knowledge and skills to tackle meal-time with a love of food and their bodies in mind.

*Cooking Classes are excluded from all membership types. Additional fees for participation are required.

Functional Fitness

Based on the principle of Mechanics, Consistency and then Intensity, Functional fitness is the main component of the Kids Fitness League Program. Based on the principles of mechanics, consistency and intensity, Kids Fitness League emphasizes good movement from childhood into adolescence. Consistently good mechanics translates to physical literacy, enhanced sports performance and fewer sports injuries for kids. Not only that, a vast body of research indicates that exercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means consistent adherence to the program can have a positive impact on children’s academic achievement.

Kids Fitness League is meant to be BIG fun for all ages. Broad-Inclusive-General fun. Fun means we provide an active alternative to sedentary pursuits, which means less childhood obesity and all-around better health for our children. Further, the needs of second graders and high-school varsity wrestlers differ by degree and not kind; the program is scalable for any age or experience level and accounts for the varied maturation status one can find in a class full of kids.

Family & Youth Health Coaching

The KFL has a trained and certified Health Coach that works with families and youth to set goals for improving their health. Family and Youth Health Coaches provide health education, personal support and encouragement to identify obstacles and make behavioural changes. Coaching helps children and families achieve health and wellbeing by eliminating unhealthy habits that can lead to illness and chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.

For young people dealing with weight issues, a Health Coach works with the child and family to create a plan to slowly change eating, physical activity and relaxation habits. Coaching helps children choose healthier foods, become more active, take breaks from stress, manage their weight, and improve a vast majority of other health and wellness related habits.

Games & Play

The KFL program is often a child’s first exposure to exercise and fitness. Because of this, we understand how vital it is for children to have fun while they’re here. One of our main focuses during classes (amongst many) is to correlate fitness with BIG FUN in hopes that children continue to incorporate health and fitness for the rest of their lives.

With the 5-12 year old age group we incorporate a fun game to wrap up the fitness session. Some games are geared towards health, fitness and overall wellness education, while most are just an awesome reward for working so hard during the fitness class. It’s a great way for kids to socialize and let loose!

Active Tutoring

Students will begin their session with 15-20 minutes of physical activity followed by a stretching session in order to jump-start the brain! Students will then have a 60-minute tutoring session in whichever subject they choose. A great choice for a healthy body & mind!

Social Gatherings

The KFL community is as strong as the kids in it! Friendships effortlessly form between children in their workout classes. Keeping active bonds between the children and the sense of community alive outside the box is very important and contributes fully to our purpose. Getting the kids together for just about anything fun; from a movie at the theatre or a day at the waterpark, is definitely to be expected! Creating social ties between children that share similar interests and commonalities is a wonderful and unique aspect of our program that we wish to grow and foster.

Field Trips

There’s so much to learn and discover in regards to health, fitness and wellness. We want children to grow and learn how to be healthy and well in the world today. We’ll take frequent trips to the grocery store to learn how to grocery shop based on individual needs, read labels, what foods to avoid and which ones are the most beneficial. Other field trips include trips to pools, beaches, parks, etc., to teach children that they can incorporate fitness juts about anywhere they go!

Summer Camp & P.A Day Camps

Keeping your children busy and on track during the summer months and on P.A Days can be difficult. We understand that you’re busy with work and taking care of the household. No worries! Kids Fitness League to the rescue! Here are just a few ways that we will help…

  • Kids Fitness League (KFL) is a goal oriented program that allows for your child to continue their journey of self-discovery
  • KFL is a place for your child to learn how to think positive and how to safely move alongside children of their age with similar interests.

  • We teach problem solving skills and encourage teamwork for your child to optimize their social skills.
  • Fundamental movements are taught to encourage confidence and independence.
  • We implement a routine based program with consistent instruction to ensure SUCCESS amongst all participants!
  • We focus on your child departing with a sense of achievement rather than an emphasis on intensity or volume.

BONUS: Our program also uses activity to learn and implement patterning skills, ABCs, basic counting, the science behind our bodies, everyday health and wellness, and many more educational aspects!
Summer Camps and P.A. Days run from 9:00am-4:00pm (pre-care available starting @ 8:00am and post-care is available until 5:00pm)
Some of the things you’re child has to look forward to:

  • AM & PM healthy snacks included
  • Special lunch provided on Friday
  • 3 hours of CrossFit daily: fundamentals, skills, mobility and WOD
  • Yoga
  • Meditation and breathing exercises
  • Arts and Crafts relating to health and wellness
  • Fun team building games
  • Outdoor sports and games
  • Educational and interactive themed lessons and games on nutrition, anatomy and mental/emotional health
  • Social skills development and reinforcement activities
  • Self-esteem and confidence development and reinforcement activities

Children ages 5-12 will benefit most from our Summer Camps and P.A. Days.

Personal Training

As much as we love to foster a sense of community within the Kids Fitness League, not all children are comfortable exercising amongst their peers. When this happens, children may become unhealthy or overweight due to lack of exercise during recess or physical education classes, and lack of participation in after school sports and/or recreational sports teams, etc. Personal training is a great option for children who are overweight or generally unhealthy and lack the confidence and motivation to include physical fitness into their lives. Personal training programming is based solely around your child’s physical health and wellness wants, needs, and desires.
